    Center of The Bible
This is amazing and pretty strange. What is the shortest chapter in the Bible? ......Psalms 117 What is the longest chapter in the Bible? ....... Psalms 119 What chapter is the center of the Bible? .......Psalms 118 FACT:: There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118. FACT: There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118. Add these numbers (594+594) and you get 1188. What is the center verse in the Bible? Psalms 118:8. Does this verse say something significant about God's perfect will for our lives? The next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center His Word. Psalm's 118:8 (NKJV) "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."
Now isn't that odd how this worked out? (or was God in the center of it)?

    • Psalms 1:1: "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful." Blessed does not mean happy. Blessed is much deeper than that state of quality of deep inner happiness. It is not dependent on outward circumstances. Not dependent on how you feel. Blessedness is something God establishes within. "Walk" means direction. "Counsel" means plans or purposes. Wicked people are rebellious to God and sinners are confortable in their rebellion. Scoffers actually mock and stand against God, or "sitteth" which means to "take the position." The beatitudes, "blessed is the man,"...was the beginning of Jesus' ministry. The Psalm verse lists three different things progressively worse than the other.

    • Ps 1:2: But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night His delight is in the law of the Lord, or the "hard stuff." When one meditates upon it, it becomes a part of them. Biblical meditation is not accomplished by emliminating thought but by redirecting thought to the Word of God. The Hebrew word for "meditate" (hagah) means "to utter sounds, to speak." It often appears in synonymous parallelism with zakar, "To remember, call to mind," and stah, to consider, ponder." To meditate then, is to recall all that God has said and done. Meditate includes audible recitation, and it is to be done continually "day and night." (see Joshua 1:8)

    • Ps 1:3: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not whither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper The tree will have a water supply. He bears fruit in its season...fruit is seasonal. God's granted measurment of "prosper" is not to be measured in material things.

    • Ps 1:4: The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. The ungodly are the oppsoite of the righteous. Rather than being a sturdy oak, they are "like the chaff which the wind drives away." To be severed from the word of God is to have no root, no nourishment, no fruit, no real life. Chaff has no root and is blown away easily by the wind.
    • Ps 1:5: Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous The ungodly will not be judged with the saints.
    • Psalms 2:4: "He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision." Make sure he is not laughing at you. God always has the last laugh.

    • Psalms 2:12: Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him If you put your trust in Him, you are already blessed. "kiss the Son"=to lay hold of, reverence, appeal to Him for mercy. God will not forever tolerate a nonreciprocal relationship.

    • Ps 4:4: "...commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still" The peace of such meditation gives strength to all our days.

    • Ps 11:5: The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates." This would suggest that all men--Christian or not are tested by God. The wicked man turns to anger and violence... and it may not seem to be against man, but it is against God.
    • Ps 12:4: "The wicked say our lips are our own." the Christian answers with the great cofession, "I am not my own, but my body and soul belong to my faithful saviour."

    • Ps 14:1: "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." Later we are told that these fools are corrupt, and "there is none that doeth good." The fool is nabal a stupid, impious, wicked, and vile man. His problem is moral, not intellectual.

    • Ps 19:1 All creation displays Gods glory. All there is, was designed by God to reflect His majesty.

    • Ps 23:1: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." When we have learned to trust our shepherd, we come into a place of "rest" in knowing that our "wants" will be provided. this is actually a very powerful and profound statement for someone to be able to truly say with conviction because it often doesnt come without testing. Some of us are stubborn and we dont willingly come to a place where we realize God is "The Good Shepherd," who looks after our every concern and need in this life.

    • Ps 24:1: "The earth is the Lords and the fulness thereof: the world, and they that dwell therein." Satan reigns over sin and death, not over God's creation and certainly not over God's people. Every sphere of activity is spiritual and should be subject to the Word of God.

    • Ps 25:28: "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls." Having lost all defensive fortifications, a man who cannot govern himself is like an ancient city whose walls have been broken. It is an enticing prey to alien armies.

    • Ps 27:1: "The Lord is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?" God did not create us to live in fear. He created us to have fellowship with Him.

    • Ps 27:11: "Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies."God's guidance is CLEAR guidance. The psalmist prayed to be led in a plain path. The Lord is always more anxious than we are that we should be absolutely clear as to His will.

    • Ps 32:10: Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about" The power of evil, however seemingly great and entrenched, is a short term matter. David, who saw the wicked flourish and hunt him like a wild animal was still able to declare this.

    • Psalms 33:9 teaches, just as Genesis does, that the world was created instantly by God's word.

Ps 34-1-10: If we hope to spend eternity in praising God, it is fit that we should spend much of our time here in this work. He never said to any one, Seek ye me in vain. David's prayers helped to silence his fears; many besides him have looked unto the Lord by faith and prayer, and it has wonderfully revived and comforted them. When we look to the world, we are perplexed, and at a loss. But on looking to Christ depends our whole salvation, and all things needful thereunto do so also. This poor man, whom no man looked upon with any respect, or looked after with any concern, was yet welcome to the throne of grace; the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The holy angels minister to the saints, and stand for them against the powers of darkness. All the glory be to the Lord of the angels. By taste and sight we both make discoveries, and have enjoyment; Taste and see God's goodness; take notice of it, and take the comfort of it. He makes all truly blessed that trust in him. As to the things of the other world, they shall have grace sufficient for the support of spiritual life. And as to this life, they shall have what is necessary from the hand of God. Paul had all, and abounded, because he was content, Php 4:11-18. Those who trust to themselves, and think their own efforts sufficient for them, shall want; but they shall be fed who trust in the Lord. Those shall not want, who with quietness work, and mind their own business.

    • Ps 34:11: Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord" God teaches us the fear of Him through His word.
    • Psalms 34:19: "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all" Apparently "afflictions" are part of our destiny. Why are we so surprised when afflictions do come? We have been told to expect them. It is quite possible, even, that the more righteous we are, the more afflictions we will face.

    • Psalms 36:9: "For with thee is the foundation of life: in thy light shall we see light." God's revelation, His Word, defines us and our world. Reality is what god says it is, and we are to develop our knowledge of ourselves and His creation under Him in faithfulness to his word.

    • Ps 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.". The desires of your heart will come from Him...if you delight in Him.
    • Psalms 37:17: "For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous."

    • Ps 41:1: "Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble." There are many such remarkable promises in the Bible. They are God's promises, not man's. They are sure promises, and yet we tend to neglect them.

    • Psa 41:9: "Even my friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has turned against me." Betrayal.

    • Psa 51:5: "Behold I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother concieved me" Throughout Scripture we read that a human life originates at conception.

    • Psalms 52:7: "Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness." Money will give a false sense of security.

    • Ps 55:4-5: My heart is sore pained within me: the terrors of death are fallen upon me. Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and the horror hath overwhelmed me There was no gang trying to rob him or a knife at his back, yet he trembled. Because his brother bore a hateful grudge against him )a friend, someone he had trusted)
    • Ps 56:4: In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me? Flesh can only wound flesh. He may kill you, but not hurt you. Why should you fear of losing that which you have already given to Christ? You have no life to lose because you have given it to Christ already.
    • Ps 60:12: "Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies." This is our confidence.

    • Ps 66:3: The works of God are terrible. The Hebrew word translated in the King James version means "stupendous, admirable, wonderful, illustrious. Nothing can compare to the works of God.

    • Ps 66:9: He holdeth our souls in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved. He is holding us steady.
    • Ps 66:10: For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried God has lead you to this trial for a purpose. He is proving you.
    • Ps 66:11: Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins God has lead you into the net.
    • Ps 66: 12: Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water God allowed others to walk over you, to take advantage of you. The Lord allowed you to go through blazing fire and great floods. God is at work in you.
    • Ps 66:16: Come and hear, all that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul I want to testify of the great things God has done for me.
    • Ps 69: 32: Your heart shall live who seek Godf Seeking Him brings true healthy life.
    • Ps 73:5: "They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagues like other men." They are free from the hassles common to man.

    • Ps 78:41: "yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the holy one of Israel." They didnt allow God to accomplish what he liked to do.

    • Ps 82:8: "Arise O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations." God has final judgment over all creation.

    • Ps 86:5: For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto them that call upon thee He is at all time willing to forgive.
    • Ps 89:1: "I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever: with my mouth I will make known thy faithfulness to all generations." Announces the Psalmnist's purpose, "to sing."

    • Ps 90:12: "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." Make each day count and be fruitful.

    • Ps 91:1: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty "Dwell" means to live. Do you live in the "secret place" of the most high? Do you truly pray to God?
    • Ps 95:10: Forty years long I grieved with this generation, and said, it is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways." In the forty years of God wanting to teach them, they still did not know Him.
    • Ps 98:8: "Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together" Nature is in time with God. ("All you trees clap your hands")

    • Ps 103:8: The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He is slow to anger and wrath. The devils biggest lie is to make youi believe God is more willing to judge and condemn you than He is to save you, bless and deliver you.
    • Ps 103:13: "Like a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him." We are to pity our children as God the father pities His children.

    • Psalm 103:14: for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. Not like some unskillfull quack who has but one prescription for all, strong or weak, young or old; but as a wise physician considers his patient and then writes his bill.
    • Ps 107:7: "And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation." God always leads by a straight way as opposed to a crooked way.
    • Ps 107:29: He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves therof are still" ERvery wind and wave that comes into your life is subject to the Lord.

    • Ps 112:1: "Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments." He doesnt just keep them, but he delights in them.

Ps 119:11-12 “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes” The key to not sinning.

    • Ps 119:59: "I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies" Self-examination has a goal, and that goal is increased conformity to the image of God as revealed in Christ, his word, and his law.

    • Ps 119:71: It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. The Hebrew word for affliction here means "borbeaten, troubled, abased, chastened, defiled, hurt, humbled, weakened, depressed." The words "statutes" in this verse means "engraved law." So, it is good that I went through all these afflictions, that the Lord would engrave His law in my heart.
    • Ps 119:75: I know, O Lord, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me" David is saying that the Lord afflicted him for a reason.
    • Ps 119:105: Your word is a lamp unto my feet; and a light unto my path There are many who think they can go through life--dark and dangerous as it is sometimes--without the lamp of God's truth; they therefore hide it out of sight, or neglect to trim it by constant and prayerful study.
    • Ps 127:1: "Except the Lord build the house. they labor in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchmen waketh but in vain" In no area of life--from humanism to politics--will "humanism" save us. Unless all the philosophies and ideals are brought into the captivity of the Lord Jesus Christ, and under bibilical law--we are doomed. Constitutions, confessions, contracts, and the like have a necessary place in life...the problem, though, is one of trust.

    • Ps 136: Psalm 136 summons us to give conti9nual thanks to God for His mercy. Too often, when we pray, we forget to thank God for His mercy. We fall into the sin of expecting mercy and believing that we deserve it. This is why the reading of this Psalm is so wholesome.

    • Ps 139:7: "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee your presence?" The answer, of course, is nowhere.

    • Ps 139:13-15: For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mothers womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Although the Bible makes no claim to be a textbook of embryology, here is a plain affirmation that the growth of the fetus is neither haphazard nor automatic but a divine work of creative skill.
    • Ps 139:23-24: Search em O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. David suspected he had offensive ways in him. So instead of denying them, he wanted to faec the truth.
    • Ps 142:2: I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble A calm soul is a "poured out" soul--one who has cried everything out, emptying all in Gods presence.
