Notice it does not say that he devours everyone, but that he looks for those who he can devour. Also note that he is not pictured as a roaring lion, but that he just acts like it.

  • I Pet 1:2: who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. God knew before hand who would accept and would not accept. This does not mean He overrode free will. He just knew what every man's choice would be. It is the Spirit of God that does the sanctifying work.
  • I Pet 1:4: To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you You have an inheritance awaiting you in heaven.
  • I Pet 1: 7: These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Your faith is worth more than all the money and possesions you own.
  • I Pet 1:9: for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Salvation of your souls: the goal of your faith.

  • I Peter 1:24: For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, We are so temporal in this existence. Here today and then gone from this earth. In the grand concept of "time," we are but like the grass.

  • I Peter 1:25: but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you. The word and the Lord are the same: they both stand forever.
  • I Peter 2:1-2: Wherefore laying aside all malice and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings. As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby Are you struggling with growth? Consider whether you have an issue with malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies, and evil speakings.
  • I Pet 2: 8: and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. The message of Christ is all men's destiny.

  • I Pet 2:21: For even herunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps In the Old Testament, faithful belivers seemed shocked when suffering came their way. They expected God to reward their faithfulness with prosperity and comfort. But the New testament shows a remarkable change--its authors expect the opposite.

  • I Peter 3:15: "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," We must know what we are praying and talking about. hope=desire

  • I Pet 4: 2: As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. The born again Christians new purpose for living.
  • 3For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
  • 4They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.
  • 5But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
  • 6For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
  • 7The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
  • I Pet 4: 8: Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. It doesnt make it as thgough they dont exists....it acually buries them.
  • I Peter 4: 12-13: Thunk it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice! Your trial may be beyond human reasoning. Stop asking why and rejoice that he is at work.
  • I Peter 4:17: For judgment begins with the family of God, and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of Christ?" Divine judgement begins with the house of God. It begins with Christians. In effect, Peter is arguing that the evidence that a culture is experiencing divine judgement is found in the systematic persecution of Christians. Christians suffering is the first sign that divine judgment visits a culture.
  • I Peter 5:8: "Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." Notice it does not say that he devours everyone, but that he looks for those who he can devour. Also note that he is not pictured as a roaring lion, but that he just acts like it.
