  • II Peter 1:1: "Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. Right from the start Peter makes it clear he is talking to believers. Every believer has been given thr measure of faith (Rom 12:3). The Bible tells us many things that we are to do with that measure of faith. We are to walk by faith and not by sight (I Cor 5:7). We are to fight the good fight of faith (I Tim 6:12). It also says that without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6).

  • II Pet 1:3: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue He has provided abundant provision for us to escape and allow victory.
  • II Peter 1:16: We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. There was no need to make something up. He just told them what he saw.
  • II Pet 1:20: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. Anything other than His meaning is a private interpretation and is false.

  • II Pet 1:21: For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost True prophecy is inspired by the Holy Spirit through man.

  • II Pet 2: 2: Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. We see this a lot in todays society. The road to truth and righteousness is mucked by the actions of those who just followed their own way "in the name of the Lord," or so they said.
  • II Pet 2: 10: This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; Notice that "corrupt desire of sinful nature" and despising authority" are mentioned equally in this verse.
  • II Pet 3:3-4: There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation" A bold faced lie. Things have not continued as they were. Everything is going through a change, if even internally. The changes are often subtle.
  • II Pet 3:8: But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day It does not say that one day equals a thousand years. it is using a figure of speech, implying that a day is as a thousand years to the Lord. Remember He is infinite and outside of time.
